The Passion of Jesus
Welcome! We hope that you enjoyed the performance today.
On Good Friday 29th March 2024 one hundred Wintershall players bring the moving portrayal of the final days of Jesus to Trafalgar Square.
The 90-minute production is free of charge - their gift to Londoners and visitors. No tickets are required. The performances are at 12 noon and 3:15 pm.
The production is open air with visibility maximised using a large screen. There is a realistic interpretation of the crucifixion so parental guidance is advised. British sign language interpretation is provided.
Wintershall has performed the Passion of Jesus in Trafalgar Square for 12 years, the open-air production regularly attracts more than 20,000 people to its two performances, with up to 300,000 watching on livestream through their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Wintershallplay. This will subsequently be available to watch on Wintershall’s YouTube channel www.youtube.com/user/wintershallplayers.
The Wintershall Cast are famous for their epic re-enactments of stories from the Scriptures. They also perform the extraordinary Life of Christ at Wintershall in Surrey every June (18-22 June 2024) and the now-famous Wintershall Nativity each Christmas (11-16 December).

The Passion of Jesus
Throughout history, people have used the creative arts to tell the most important stories; stories which move us, inspire us, instruct us, and entertain us.
The Wintershall Plays are part of a rich international tradition of reenacting the last few days of Jesus’ life – known as the ‘Passion Play.’ It is a story filled with drama, intrigue, hope, loss…and even a horse. The Passion Play is performed in front of live audiences every year, as a way of introducing people to the story of Jesus’ life, death, and ultimate resurrection.
Whether you know the story well, or whether you were just passing through – this is a story which has inspired every part of human life as we know it – from politics to economics; law to community organisation; arts to scientific discovery. Even wars and peace accords have been influenced by the life, words, actions and interpretations of this Jesus story.
